Summit High School cross country star Matthew Maton doesn't get the same attention as five-star football and basketball recruits, but there's no doubt Oregon just landed one of the premier talents in the country – even if his commitment earlier this week barely registered to mainstream fans.

Named The Oregonian's 2013-2014 High School Athlete of the Year, Maton entered his senior year hoping to build on his recent success. He'd already won the 5A boys cross country, 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter state championships, going unbeaten as a junior in the process.
